Aktasne - Together: New concepts, theories and methodologies on Sami studies II . Place: Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden Event Date: March 9 2016–March 11 2016
Following on from the highly successful conference, Oovtâst – Together. New concepts, theories and methodologies on Sami studies that was held in Enare, Finland, the Department of Language Studies, Umeå University together with Vaartoe Centre for Sami research, and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) are happy to announce the second triennial Aktasne - Together: New concepts, theories and methodologies on Saami studies conference.
The conference on Sami studies will bring researchers, students and policy makers together to create a platform for dynamic and constructive debate, networking and research initiation. The conference focuses on current Sami research with an emphasis on
- Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions
- Education, Language and Revitalisation
- Global challenges, sustainability and livelihood
- Decolonization and self-determination.
Through these themes we will provide a multidisciplinary venue to generate constructive debate and explore new thoughts, and directions around methodological, conceptual and epistemological approaches to Sami studies. This specialist conference offers opportunities for Sami study research to enter into dialogue with decision-makers, and the general public. The Sami languages and English are the languages of the conference. More information about the conference and e.g. the hotels will be announced later this summer.
